Hull shopkeeper and UKIP activist dies suddenly
Tributes have been paid to popular Hull convenience store owner Serge Singh who has died suddenly aged 55.
Mr Singh ran the Jackpot store in Chamberlain Road, East Hull, for 35 years. He also became well-known as a leading local member of UKIP in the run-up to the 2016 Brexit referendum.
Emma Hart, who has managed the store alongside Mr Singh for the last 12 years, said: “He died suddenly in his sleep on Sunday night. As far as we all knew, he was in good health. We all are numb.”
“Serge was a pillar of the community around here. Everyone knew him and he did so much for the area, including organizing his legendary street parties.”
