Ultimately success or failure will not be judged on the claims of those taking ownership of the framework or indeed their acolytes in the media but by those within the United Kingdom most affected by the consequences of the Northern Ireland Protocol, most vociferously represented for the past year by the party (DUP) which has blocked the Stormont power-sharing in protest against the Protocol, which angered unionists for introducing new trade barriers between Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
