An article in the Yorkshire Post by Councillor Andy Brown of Craven District Council argues that the First-Past-The-Post system of electing our representatives is not fit for purpose and that the time for proportional representation is overdue. Although we feel the content of this article is sufficiently consistent with our own to be worthy of bringing to the attention of our readers, we also believe that changing to a system of proportional representation alone will have minimal benefit without also devolving significant power to the places it is both needed and deserved, such as Yorkshire and other County Regions.
