In such an environment, your “Guest ID” is no longer a marketing tool; with the overturning of reproductive protections in various jurisdictions, “Guest IDs” and period-tracking data have been transformed into state witnesses. The Federal Trade Commission (2025) recently highlighted how this “Fullz Economy” directly fuels the global scam market, transforming your digital breadcrumbs into a standardized industrial byproduct for criminal exploitation and making identity theft an everyday acceptable occurence. This is the logical conclusion of the Tomato Fallacy: once a preference for organic produce is linked to a GPS coordinate and a credit score, you are no longer a customer; you are a target. This shadow market operates without your oversight, selling your “Psychographic Triggers” to whoever can pay, whether they are predatory lenders or foreign intelligence services.

The only way to win this game is to refuse to play. We must disincentivize the gathering of any data a company does not strictly need to perform its primary function. You have handed the permanent keys to your financial and social life to a third-party contractor with a target on its back. Once your data hits the black market, it fuels a secondary economy of sophisticated scams, deep-fake abuse, and total identity theft. One breach of an “Identity Vault” provides a lifetime of access for scammers and identity thieves. We are sleepwalking into a world where a government mandate ensures that a single technical failure can result in the total “doxing” of an entire generation.

VI. The CCTV Mirage: Thirty Years of Fruitless Spying

In the UK we already live in a terminal surveillance state. For most citizens, from the moment you leave your house until the moment you return home every day, your movements are being monitored by CCTV. Our density of CCTV is unparalleled in the Western world to an extent that sounds like an exaggeration, it is not, every moment of our lives is being captured on camera, every move we make, every thing we do. Sounds wonderfully Orwellian doesn’t it? Yet, this expansion, which has been relentless since the 1990s, has failed its primary promise: the significant reduction of crime. Data from The British Journal of Criminology (2024) reveals that thirty years of CCTV expansion has failed to significantly impact crime clearance rates. How many more criminals do you think have been caught, arrested, charged and found guilty due to this expansion? Remarkably few, nowhere near enough to justify the cost.

How could it fail so badly? CCTV is largely Security Theatre. Most footage is silent, poorly lit, often without colour and frequently overwritten. Because it captures only the “where” and not the “why,” it rarely provides the evidence required for a conviction beyond mere presence at a scene. That is assuming you can identify them at all, to save costs usually cheap often insecure units are used, meaning image quality is poor, and the device itself easy to disrupt meaning the camera sees nothing even when it happened right in front of it, in many cases most of the time the camera is off, again as a cost saving measure. Criminals, far from being deterred, have simply learned to exploit the system’s blind spots.

The reason this cost-saving attitude prevails is precisely because it is not an effective technique, it does not catch criminals very often and the operators know this. Sure enough criminals learn this too and now it isn’t even doing a very good job of prevention through security theatre. The bottom line is if all cameras were working and decent quality all the time, they still wouldn’t catch much crime, because criminals would look for the weaknesses, and there are far too many camera systems to go through, too much data, this is data blindness and it affects all kinds of data, the more you gather the worse it gets. For catching criminals you have a time limit because for most CCTV systems the tapes are erased on a weekly basis, there simply aren’t enough analysts or time to go through even just the cameras watching a street corner meaning the system is functionally useless.

This all begs the question of why if it isn’t even effective do we constantly have our entire lives spied upon? For the same reason companies gather data, they don’t care about your privacy and would rather spend ridiculous amounts of money extracting every penny they can from every customer. The reason this ineffective system persists is not safety, but Observation Habituation. As Privacy International (2025) argues, we have normalized being spied upon, we have accepted the loss of our sovereign right to be unobserved on the premise that it might “catch someone.” In reality, it has achieved little but the erosion of the presumption of innocence. Last I checked society was built by and for people, not companies. The individual is the sovereign, and has a right to a life free of observation, because we are not prisoners, we have done nothing wrong and our justice system is built upon the premise of innocent until proven guilty for a very good reason. If the government wants to find us guilty, the onus is on them to prove it, without denying us our rights.

Think for a moment about how horrible it would be if every moment of CCTV was collated to build a picture of our lives, and fed into AI to build predictive models of our behaviour, the models would know everything about us, the shops we prefer, who our friends are, what we get up to every minute of the day. It would become impossible to plan a surprise party for our spouse, as they would know as soon as we thought about it and bought a cake, that is not a world anyone wants to live in. Why did that not happen with CCTV? The answer is in the name, Closed Circuit TeleVision, it by definition is not allowed to talk to anything else, just like it can only be used on your premises, and it cannot be used in private spaces like toilets. That’s the point, it was only allowed on the premise that you literally couldn’t collate mass data, you can’t even store this information long term without just cause, which is why security originally overwrote the tapes, not because they were trying to save money on tapes. When they brought CCTV into law they already knew the dangers, and they tried to mitigate them, not only do we now need to do this for all private citizen data, we need to understand that this is outdated, there is no logical sense in spying on the population constantly when it has proved to be fruitless, we need to start stepping back the surveillance state, not giving them new ways to delve deeper (Forensic Data Acquisition Report, 2026).

VII. The Myth of the Omniscient Eye: Data Blindness

The most pervasive justification of the surveillance state is that “More Data = More Safety.” This is a lie. In reality, we are suffering from Data Blindness. Security agencies already possess far more information than they can possibly parse. By obsessively collecting the “tomatoes” of 60 million innocent citizens, the state creates a haystack so massive that the needle becomes invisible.

Security agencies are currently paralyzed by an overwhelming “noise-to-signal” ratio. We see the evidence of this after every high-profile tragedy. Whether it is a mass shooting or a terrorist bombing, the forensic post-mortem almost always reveals the same chilling phrase: “The suspect was known to authorities.” The data was already there. The warnings were in the system. As argued by Big Brother Watch (2024), the data is almost always there, but because personnel were diverted to scouring the private messages of the general populace or managing a “societal database,” no one had the time or the focus to check the data that actually mattered.

Dedicating human intelligence to mass surveillance is a zero-sum game that takes police off the streets putting them behind screens. It drags analysts away from specific, credible threats, and has them scouring haystacks for needles they already possessed. We do not need a bigger haystack; we need more effective use of the needles we have already found.

VIII. The Means to Control: Child-Safety Shield as a Battering Ram

We are told that this infrastructure is a moral necessity. State actors have mastered the art of using “protecting the children” as an emotional battering ram to bypass constitutional and human rights. We did not sign up to be tracked in every waking moment, yet we are being funneled into an Orwellian oversight structure where every detail of our existence is recorded “for our own good.”

The UK’s Online Safety Act (2023) and the EU’s “Chat Control” (Client-Side Scanning) are not safety nets; it is a means of control. We are witnessing the construction of a massive societal database—a global inventory of human behavior—designed to feed the spyware technologies that states find useful in the geopolitical arena. We are not citizens to be served; we are guinea pigs in a grand experiment of behavioral engineering.

Global Partners Digital (2024) has documented the mission creep of these tools, showing how surveillance tech marketed for child safety is inevitably repurposed for political monitoring and the suppression of dissent. But we don’t need their insights, history proves the creep well enough, the evidence of this exploitation is already public record. Consider the development of facial recognition software. Its life began not with a democratic mandate, but with the illegal, mass-scale scraping of public faces (Clearview AI) from the internet to generate a database that could identify anyone, anywhere. Rather than shutting this criminal activity down and prosecuting the theft, the FBI—and by extension, every major state-backed security firm around the world that has benefitted from these tools—appropriated the stolen data (Forensic Data Acquisition Report, 2026). They took a criminal exploit and turned it into a standard tool for tracking the populace. This history proves a fundamental truth: we cannot trust authorities to “do the right thing” with our data. If they can exploit it, they will.

IX. The AI Feedback Loop: Harvesting the Human Will

This database is now being fed into the maws of Generative AI without our knowledge or our consent. Our private conversations, our medical histories, and our biometric markers are being used as training fuel for the next generation of models.

It is already known that these models are still heavily experimental, poorly understood and prone to “hallucinating” inaccurate results, but what makes this far worse is nobody has yet found a way to reliably sandbox them. Every time data of any type is presented to a model , it can “leak” across unrelated projects, be reused by the algorithm in making decisions, or simply reproduced on a whim. This is bad enough when its just a photo of your kids you wanted to add a filter to, or an email you were drafting to your boss, but when you start talking about our most private conversations and medical history it becomes a whole new order of exposure we didn’t need, want or ask for.

What’s worse is there is no effective way to police this, if only governments gathered this data on their own systems we could pass regulations and prevent those institutions using AI. The problem is this data is usually gathered by 3rd parties to start with, and time and again our government shares such data with them, other companies, foreign security agencies, the list is very long, like did you know the Food Standards Agency is allowed to look up government data about you? Why was that ever needed let alone passed? The Oxford Internet Institute (2024) highlights the “Palantir-NHS Nexus,” where federated data platforms privatize public health privacy, moving our most intimate medical records into the hands of private security contractors.

Even with strict regulation there is simply no way to stop the data being used with AI, because it inevitably makes its way to Data Brokers and onto the darkweb, and we have no power there, and time and again we see legitimate companies selling our data with reckless abandon even though they have no right to it. Anyone remember the Cambridge Analytica scandal? This was where Facebook was caught red-handed selling the data of users for political targeting, giving rise to the phrase “If you don’t know what a company sells, then you ARE the product.” Well that was the company we now call Meta that just built the stalker glasses, so this problem isn’t going away, the only solution we have is take away the data entirely since there is no reason to gather it.

The AI factor exacerbates every problem we face. We are being used to develop the very tools that will automate our own surveillance. When your private messages are scanned under “Chat Control,” they aren’t just checked for illegal content; they become part of the statistical weight that teaches an AI how to better manipulate your demographic. We are being forced to build our own cage, one data point at a time.

X. The Pre-Encryption Surveillance State

The EU’s push for Client-Side Scanning (CSS)—or “Chat Control”—is the final frontier of this incursion. To the layperson, it sounds like a technical safety feature. In reality, we must call it what it is: Pre-Encryption Surveillance, and it represents the end of private correspondence.

The proponents of CSS use “Protective Euphemisms.” They claim they are not “breaking encryption” because the scan happens before the message is sent. The ACM Conference on Computer and Communications Security (2025) has debunked this, proving that CSS fails basic security proofs and creates “unfixable vulnerabilities” in mobile hardware. Regardless this is a distinction without a difference. It is the digital equivalent of a government agent standing over your shoulder while you write in your diary, reading the words before you have even turned the key in the lock.

The stated goal is the most potent emotional shield in politics: stopping the spread of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). No sane person opposes the eradication of such horrors. However, as noted by security researchers (Luckie, 2025), the technical reality is that a backdoor built for a priest is a front door for a thief. Once the “scanning hooks” are integrated into the hardware of your phone or the code of your messaging app, they represent a permanent vulnerability. These hooks can be repurposed with a single remote update. XI. The Sinister Reality: From Profits to Social Control

What do these companies—and the governments that shadow them—actually do with your data?

This is the centralization of the most sensitive data of all: your DNA and health history. Your health is no longer a private matter; it is a data asset used to determine public health policy or private insurance risks without your explicit consent.
  • Social Credit by Stealth: We mock the social credit systems of the East, yet we have built a private version in the West.
